just because

easter sunday april 2006...i got up, put on my seersucker dress (like a good southerner) and headed to church. i remember having to be a greeter that morning. i'm probably the worlds worst greeter. i tend to get side-tracked...(aka - i see ava, allie & addison and now vasa) after church jay and i headed to the Webbs for their easter lunch & easter egg hunt. if you go to ccc and have never been over there on easter do yourself a favor and GO! the food is AMAZING and its such a fun place! we ate lunch, helped hide eggs (which for me meant chuckin' them out in the grass & trees...) and then watched the kids go hunt for them. i wasnt much for kids (unless their family) back then so i sat on the porch and pretended to think the kids were precious. we stayed for a little while then headed out. gotta get home for a sunday nap before we pig out at my folks for family night! so one day i got the ccc newsletter in the mail. it had a picture of our soon-to-arrive youth pastor/worship leader, jay lesley. i thought he had a great smile & looked like fun. (i was right.) his first sunday speaking my mom & claire kept giving me the eye. but then he introduced the girl he was dating...so that ended that. he told his story & seemed genuine. my mom left church that day saying to my dad, "that's the kind of man i could trust my daughters heart with." (right again!) jay lived here for a while before we became friends. we said hello in passing but nothing much. he says that he knew i was funny (from overhearing conversations, etc.) and thought we'd be good friends. the first time we ever spent time together he was basically "working me" so i'd help with a youth lock-in. we went to dinner, got ice cream at mcdonalds and went to the cheap movies. side story - the movie stopped for a few minutes & some guy yelled, "...

I cant wait to see what he says/does to make me laugh today. Yesterday I picked the girls up from vbs and went to lunch with them. I’ve had a migraine for a couple days this week so I wasn’t feeling 100% but I did NOT want to let them down. So I traded cars with my dad. Yep, I was kickin’ it in the minivan. It still makes me laugh that he drives a minivan. I was a little worried that I might embarrass the girls. You all know I don’t like to wear makeup so I didn’t have it on & my clothes didn’t match. I can’t think of anything specific to blog about. So I’m just going to talk…could get dangerous. I really like sundried tomatoes. Jay is going to wal-mart tonight. So there should be plenty of exciting stories for tomorrow. He tried to say that I exaggerate about him leaving things out & around. This morning I woke up to a big jar of raisins in the living room. It never ends. I might be one of those annoying gym people. I just figured that out today. I am “that girl” who hoots & hollers during class. Yeah, I yell “heyyy, etc.” it’s mainly to keep myself going when I want to lay down. Jay & I went to see his parents last week for his bday. Sooooooo much fun. His parents are hilarious. His whole family is really. My healthy eating used to stress his mom out. Now she just makes fun of it. I love it. Life can definitely be tough. I certainly have my struggles. But I laugh A LOT. i grew up in a hilarious house and I have married a funny man. It’s fabulous. Jay can make me laugh like no other. But he can also annoy me like no other. I told him a month or so ago that he is “precious & annoying.” So let’s just talk about jay for a minute… He cannot grocery shop. I (no joke) have to draw MAPS and write specific descriptions of things I need if I DARE send him to publix or wal-mart. My list looks like some sort of hardcore treasure hunt or top-secret army mission. Sometimes I even write…no, no the GREEN one. b/c I know he’s got the wrong one in his hand. he really, really tries though. It’s precious. He will always get at least ONE thing wrong. But it never ceases to crack me up. He tries. I know he hates going. Don’t think I’m mean for sending him. Honestly, I only send him about once a month. And I kinda do it so he realizes that things don’t just appear in the kitchen eac...

today i'm kind of blah. i havent been feeling 100%. i'm sleepy, i feel old and worn out. one reason i could be tired is b/c jay decided to "play the organ" on his ipad last night...very loudly. i was dead asleep and next thing i know i hear obnoxious, haunted house music coming from the living room. i wasnt about to get up. so i just called him from the bedroom. he answered with "uh oh." yeah, he knew. i finally went back to sleep and then like kramer from seinfeld...he came flying in the bedroom (as if to announce he was coming to bed.) i told him i kinda hated him in my heart. he got in bed. flopped around for a while and went to sleep. thank God. i did not want to exercise but i pushed through my morning routine. i did get a (jackpot!!) bag of hand-me-downs today. i really have zero shame in praying for hand-me-downs. i try not to shop often. when i do shop i go to target & old navy and only hit up the sale racks. so getting a bag of stuff i...

For most people practice makes perfect. For me not so much. I’ve probably been snow skiing 8 times. So not very many attempts in my (almost) 33 years. But I can honestly say…I get worse every time. My last attempt will hopefully be just that…my LAST. I’m pretty sure I’ve never hated anything so badly in my life. I’d rather pet a cat, while wearing vibrams, on a moped, on my way to take down wallpaper. That’s how much I hate it. Here’s how this last trip went down. (literally) I used to go on youth trips with Christ Community when jay was the youth pastor. I loved him & I love teenagers so it wasn’t ever much of a sacrifice. (and I’m pretty positive the adults had more fun on those trips than the students…here are a few examples: One trip I won the award for fitting the most pretzels in my mouth at once.
