observations

just some thoughts i've had lately... first of all - watching jay with gabe helps me understand why ALL children need a dad!! he plays games & throws gabe around in ways i'd never think to. sometimes my heart stops for a second...but gabe loves it. and NEEDS it! dads are rough, wild and crazy. gabe needs that as much as he needs my gentleness :) they are hilarious together. i wish everyone could watch. gabe is so brave! he goes right along with all of jays silliness. jay throws him around like he's an olympic athlete. those puff snacks for babies...so good! jay and i eat them more than gabe i think. no joke, last night i thought "i need a bowl of milk and i can make this into cereal." poor g. carrot baby food tastes like tomato soup. walmart diapers leak. it never fails if i get a basket to shop at a store...i need a buggy. snacking at fresh market is fabulous. mentos gum is the BEST. thanks mom! my mom is seriously the TOUGHEST human being i...

dallas, sweet dallas!

i am writing this blog more for myself & gabe than anyone else. i want to remember every detail of our final adoption trip to dallas. so i figured blogging about it would help me "write" it down. my dad decided to skip this trip. BOOOOOO. so my mom, gabe, jay & i loaded my parents minivan and left town around 8:45pm tuesday, july 18. yes, 8pm. we figured we'd drive thru the night so gabe would sleep most of the trip! my mom is an animal. she has more energy than anyone...ever. jay likes to stay up late so we figured between the two of them we'd be fine going all night. notice i wasn't part of that equation at all. i'm worse than gabe. i think i even went to sleep before he did... the WORST idea i had was to take tylenol pm a couple hours into the trip. oh gosh. i don't sleep well on road trips so i thought some tylenol pm would put me out and i'd sleep like a champ! well, bad news. there's NO good place to sleep in that dang van. so i...
been thinking lately about things i'm thankful someone invented...like pacifiers. here's more: hot water heaters candles dvr beach chairs sunscreen contacts (i hate wearing glasses) running shoes lamps - i hate overhead lights redbox ceiling fans - i know they are ugly but i cant sleep without one chapstick diet coke/diet dr pepper dunkin donuts french vanilla coffee crushed ice sharpies sugarless gum disposable diapers. sorry, just cant see myself washing cloth ones. i might vomit.  lotion. i cannot stand being ashy :) side note: an electrician just walked into my office with a headlamp on. awesome. my crazy brother wears one when he reads in bed at night. hahaha.  so here's a list of things i could/would eat without stopping: (except i'd get sick) trail mix donuts chips & salsa pizza peanut butter smores (with peanut butter) butter pecan ice cream waffles/pancakes captain wafers toast h...

i have no topic...

i dont have anything to blog about. but i get sad when blogs i follow go weeks without blogging. so i figured i'd throw one out there for the few that read mine :) few things first. i DESPISE roaches. i have no freakin clue why we can't seem to get rid of them in our house but we keep seeing them. i am ILL. hopefully jay called the exterminator to come AGAIN... gross. i think it is impossible to keep fingernail polish from chipping. i painted mine monday afternoon and dang if they aren't looking worn already. forget it. i paint my nails b/c i have this GI Jane haircut so i think painted nails makes me look a little more girly... Lord knows i'm not going to wear makeup everyday. i try. i just cant do it. not to mention the days i DO wear it no one sees me! except jay and he surely doesn't care. so sunday i thought i'd do something fathers day-ish and go to that boys & their toys (?) show with jay. oh my word. let me set the scene for you... it was...

life lately

we had our last adoption home visit yesterday. now we've just got our court date in texas and we're done! i'm trusting God with every last detail. i, however, am spending my time finding just the right outfit for gabe for court. i'm definitely wearing my cowboy boots. yeehaw!  i hope our lawyer does too. at least for a picture! i'm planning on buying a cowboy hat for gabe and having the lawyer & judge sign it. hope they are friendly. is it weird that i'm already thinking about child #2? this time i'm thinking toddler. they say they are harder to come by. that seems odd to me. i'm praying about it and asking God to tell jay when it's time. jay is better at listening to God...i talk too much. i moved into my new office at work. it is super fun! it's really big. makes me look important. rest assured i'm not! ha.  today i am super thankful for my job. here are some reasons why: i dont have to dress nice or wear makeup. our office i...

just what i needed!

so this week we went to the beach for our staff retreat. it was EXACTLY what i needed after the craziness of moving. of course it started out a little chaotic. i got up wednesday morning, threw on my running shoes and squeezed 10 miles in before packing things up for the beach. i had myself and gabe all packed and ready. jay (of course) hadn't started packing and had a meeting that morning... jay has interesting timing with things. he has zero idea how long things take. i never listen to how long he says something will take. if he says an hour i know it'll at least be 2. so when he told me that morning he'd be ready to go by 12 or so i should've KNOWN it'd be later... he called me around 11:30. i was excited thinking he might be on his way home. not so much. he was at goodyear. his breaks were acting up. ugh. we dont typically take jays truck on trips. but we were planning on it this time because we wanted to deliver a doll house to his sister. jay said he...

moving & wallpaper = the devil

let me introduce you to "trailer kaci." last september jay & i were hauling a HUGE trailer slam full of luggage back from the TA retreat. Now keep in mind i was tired. my staff and i had just planned & lead a retreat for 180ish folks (mostly teens) and i was spent. but after stopping at our first red light and sliding side to side we realized something had to change... so several miles down the road we pulled over and decided we had to readjust the luggage. yep, move it. jay cant get in the trailer. he's too big and it's too full. so guess who had to climb in.... on my KNEES (in the middle of pillows, sleeping bags and luggage) i picked things up from one end of the trailer and threw it to the other side. yes, i am a beast. jay was amazed. so now when i pick up anything heavy or push through something extremely tough - jay refers to me as "trailer kaci." we also figured out this week my parents (mom especially) LIVES in "trailer" ...
