7 years of loooooooove
jay and i celebrated 7 years of marriage on sunday. yay!!! how fun. i thought i'd write about our wedding and how we celebrated our 7th.
here's what sticks out in my mind the most when i think about our wedding:
- my poor mom who did EVERYTHING. i didn't even know what my flowers were going to look like. (ps - she also "quit" being my wedding planner and then took the job back, ha.) i must've been zero help.
- jay and i didn't care too much about the ceremony. we were just excited to start our life together! which my mom thought was smart and sweet...but again annoying.
- jay really didn't care about anything except NOT having to wear a tux (we just bought him a nice black suit) and FOOD. homeboy showed up with paper and pen when it came to picking out our reception meal. hilarious.
- we did decide we wanted a family and super close friends ceremony and a BIG reception. so we only had maybe 60 in the chapel and over 300 at the reception. so much fun.
- the morning of our wedding i ran with my friend sarah jane and without showering went to brunch at my brothers house with my family and jays. we ate LOTS of yummy stuff...tomato pie, oatmeal cake, bfast casserole, grits, grape salad etc YUM. and watched the video my mom made of us growing up and becoming a couple. super sweet.
- i remember that it was 12:30 when jay and his parents left my condo. i still hadn't showered and had to be ready and at the church by 2pm. can you say low maintenance bride?! :)
- ashley bourke wright came over about 1pm and brought a couple pairs of shoes as options to wear with her bridesmaid dress. again, low maintenance girls. gotta love it :)
- the wedding was sweet. our dads were both involved. my brother sang. ava and allie were my flower girls. keefee did the wedding and sang a song (i MADE him.) and OF COURSE i sent jay back in to get his mom at the end. i think EVERY groom should do that!
- then we went to the reception and DANCED like fools. we also ate a lot. but we danced so hard we both had to shower before leaving. i didnt even have makeup on when we left.
- no lie. jay slept on the way to atlanta and i ate all the leftovers they country club packed up for us. yes, i did.
- then we made it to our hotel in atlanta....bow chicka bow wow....
- the next morning we ordered amazing pecan waffles AND realized jay had left his passport in columbus.
- my brother made it from his house to the atlanta airport in 45 mins. yes, 45.
our honeymoon was hilarious and fun. we basically ATE for a week. jay got injured playing volleyball and had ear issues so we had to go to the clinic. haha. other than that we ate...nonstop.
jay and i decided we'd write our favorite memories from the past 7 years and bring it to supper (just at home) on sunday night. jay did get me 7 gifts :) that was a fun surprise!
then we shared our fav moments. we decided ahead of time not to make it about Gabe or ALL of our favs would be g related.
jays favorites:
7. missed flights (we typically miss our flights when traveling, ha) but we can make an airport FUN!
6. "he's a coward" - funny story. we were at supper one night at myrtle beach and we overheard this old guy with a THICK jersey accent talking about "lionel." and apparently he's a coward b/c this guy kept saying it. i wish you could hear how funny it was. ask us sometime. we quote it all the time. gabe even laughs. we also make each other say things in that guys accent. never fails to crack us up.
5.asheville/california/new york - some of our fav trips!!
4. date lunch - we try to go to lunch once a week since we don't like to leave gabe for a night date!
3. watching/hearing me be gabe's mom. (he wasnt supposed to mention g!)
2. the year calendar - for his bday one year i bought a planner and wrote in it 365 things i love about him. something different every day for a year.
1. engagement/wedding day
my favs:
1. sabbatical trips - good coffee in california (i drank it ALL DAY) and NYC. perfect trips.
2. pecan waffles at the ritz while freakin' over jays passport.
3. blue pointe (Great restaurant in atl.) and reading all of our love notes on our 1st anniversary. - my sweet brother sent us to the ritz on our 1st ann. it was so special. we each had a gift bag FULL of notes we'd written each other over the past 3 years (of being best friends) we took turns reading those notes back to each other. so.much.fun.
4. lionel (refer back to jays #6.)
5. La Paz, Tupelo Honey Cafe and everything else asheville minus skiing.
6. college football and christmas everything
7. jay reading scripture at supper every night.
we both signed our cards with our nicknames.
i'm squirrel nut b/c jay told me once that he loved me more than a squirrel loves nuts.
and he's cool whip. b/c one thanksgiving he was putting cool whip on his pumpkin pie and turned to me and said from now on you can call me cool whip. so i do.
