for mom

well i've decided to start blogging. mainly for my mom. she is probably the only one who will ever read it. that's okay though. she's worth it. i'm interested to see how often i'll write.

today my heart is in russia with my brother, his wife and soon-to-be son vasa. what a precious addition he will be to our family. i am obnoxiously awaiting his arrival. there are so many things that i am excited to introduce him to. here's a few...the precious & unconditional love of Christ, lots & lots of peanut butter (i hope he likes it as much as i do!), smores, family night, movies, toys r us, college football, his super fun "umple jay" and the rest of his awesome family. he's already changed our lives and we haven't even met him in person.

so to my sweet nephew vasa - i pray that God continues to prepare your heart & mind for this new life ahead of you. i pray for peace, joy and comfort in the months to come as you figure this world out! i am asking God to hold you close taking away all fear, nervousness and uncertainty that you may feel in this transition. i believe that God has chosen you to be apart of our lives. i am thankful that your parents felt the call on their life and faithfully obeyed. i can't wait to watch you grow up. i can't wait to share life with you, pray with you, share Christ with you and (with Gods help) love you as best i know how.  you have 3 amazing sisters who are ready to teach you the ways of life in the dunlap house!! God has chosen them for you as well. you are going to love them.

Realizing more & more about this move...

It's been just over 4 months since we left GA. I can't even begin to tell you all that these 4 months have brought. But I'm going to try... Leaving Columbus was hard. Leaving family was the worst. I'll never forget that last Sunday with my family. I'll never forget weeping through church sitting next to my family thinking "I can't leave them." Lil update on us, Village Church and more

I just told Jay how much I love it here. I recently posted a blog about what the Lord has done in my heart here. I'm still not over it. My heart & mind feel as fresh as the mountain air. CHEESY but so very true and my heart is full. God has blown us away with His faithfulness. He is everywhere. He amazes me daily, hourly. He has helped Gabe's heart go from "I'm never leaving Columbus." back in May to "I hope we never leave Angel Fire, ever." I feel ya kid. I feel ya. i'm no expert

i do not claim to know ANYTHING about parenting. i've only been one 2.5 years and still text/call/email my mom and sister-in-law about everything. i'm pushing 36 so i'm not just out of high school either. but i have spent the last 15 years (between being a Young Life leader and working for Teen Advisors) walking through life with high school students and i've picked up on some things. i've mentioned some of these things before so forgive me if i repeat myself. the most important thing i've learned about teenagers - no matter how nerdy, popular, emo, cool, punkish, quiet, obnoxious, annoying they are - is that they desire CONSISTENCY. yep, they simply want someone to be consistent in their life. i have very little wisdom to share with the TAs i spend my time with. but i show up. i ask questions. i encourage them. sometimes i call them out on their foolishness. but i am THERE. so put your phone down, put away the computer, turn off the TV and spend tim
